Rock Hill, South Carolina's free outdoor classic movie series drew 300 people to screenings of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971) and Some Like It Hot (1959) in downtown Rock Hill -- proving the skeptics wrong who said locals wouldn't show up for classic films outdoors. A third screening of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial brought an even larger crowd. Admission was $3, with a free pass for anyone presenting a receipt from a downtown merchant.

“It's an event, a communal experience that heightens our sense of community and enhances the city's image,” wrote the Herald. Downtown development manager Candy Randall organized the series. More screenings were planned.
